ALEX EMERSON

If you give a child a yard, she will make herself a place.
If you give a child a field, she will make herself a place.
Give her a forest, and she will do the same.
A place she creates for herself to be, a little cove, a place with walls fashion’d from shrubs, or tall grass, or young pine trees.
This is her place; these are her bound’ries.
Within, the child is.
And so it is with the Wishing Trail. Ten such places, designed from logs, stumps, trees, grass, brush.
Places for wishing, places to be.
And so it is with the Mountain, my place, where I am.
